CIMARRON — This year’s cowboy gathering was a delight of music, food and good clean fun. Not to mention the amazing and unique cowboy poetry.

The fifth annual event had a great lineup of poets and music. The gathering started with a kick off dance on Thursday, August 23, at the St James Hotel at 7 pm featuring The Rifters. Friday August 24 was the official first day, and included sidewalk serenades and breakfast and lunch at the St James Hotel. The evening performance was held at the Philmont Scout Ranch at 7 pm.

Saturday August 25 opened with breakfast and music at the St James Hotel, with an open mic following at the Philmont Scout ranch at 9 am. Round robin sessions were held at the scout ranch from 10 am to 4 pm. The evening performances began at 7 pm and a jam session concluded Saturday’s events at 9 pm at the St James Hotel.

The festivities ended on Sunday with a cowboy church at the Philmont Ranch at 8 am.

The open mic sessions were MC’d by Dale Page and Terry Nash. The evening performances included Peggy Malone, Floyd Beard, Valerie Beard, Rambling Rangers, Susie Knight, Dale Burnson, Dale Page, and Randy Huston, as well as Rocky Sullivan Jill Jones, Deanna Mc Call, Jim Jones, Claudia Nygaard, Doug Figgs, and the Broken Chair Band.

Overall the event was fun and enjoyable and in true rustic cowboy style.
