TRINIDAD— Trinidad Police were dispatched to Cimino Park around lunch time Monday following a report of a stabbing.
When they arrived they found Scott Duran, 45, of Trinidad with a wound to his chest.
Duran told officers he had been stabbed in the chest by Ramon Velarde, 51, also from Trinidad. Velarde had fled the scene on foot according to a press statement released by the Police. Duran told officers that he and Velarde were having a disagreement when Velarde lunged toward him and stabbed him with an unknown weapon.
Duran’s wound was treated following transport to Mt. San Rafael Hospital by ambulance. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers later located Velarde at the Park Café and took him into custody. Velarde was placed at the Las Animas County Jail on a $45,000 cash/surety bond. He faces a charge of first degree assault, a class 3 felony.
