TRINIDAD — The Trinidad & Las Animas County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Purgatoire River Run Company, their newest member, on Friday, July 20, at the company’s “Commercial Street take-out spot” on the Purgatoire River.

This inner tube and kayak rental company, owned by Brad Kirby, is the first of its kind in Trinidad, offering trips down the Purgatoire, a Class II river.

There are three runs to choose from. The first is a 15 minute family-friendly run through the center of the city of Trinidad from Safeway to the Commercial Street take out spot. The second option is the 30 minute Boulevard Run with waterfalls and rapids, which begins near Mt. Carmel Community Center, and is suitable for those over 12. The third run is the one-hour Dam Run, a peaceful four-mile scenic ride through farm land and deep woods which starts just east of the Trinidad dam. It is all fun for the family and a perfect way to cool off in clear, fresh mountain water on a hot summer day. To schedule a leisurely trip down the river, or for more information, call 214-336-4229.

A ribbon cutting for Purgatoire River Run Company was held on the beach of Trinidad’s Purgatoire River on July 20. Pictured in center row, surrounded by other members of the chamber, are TLAC Chamber members Carol Gibson and Sheri Files; owner Brad Kirby, TLAC Chamber president Linda Barron, Trinidad Mayor Phil Rico, investor Jay Cimino; and Cy Michaels.
